What is a Helicoil?
A Helicoil is a precision-engineered thread insert that creates new, stronger threads in damaged holes. It's the professional solution for stripped pedal threads, providing a repair that's often stronger than the original.

Why Bike Threads Fail
Pedal Cross-Threading
The most common cause of stripped crank arms is cross-threading during pedal installation. Bicycle pedals have specific orientations: the right pedal (drive side) has standard right-hand threads, while the left pedal (non-drive side) has left-hand (reverse) threads.
Forcing a pedal in at an angle or trying to screw the wrong side in will instantly destroy the soft aluminium threads of the crank arm.
Loose Pedal Damage
If a pedal isn't tightened to the manufacturer's torque specifications (usually 35-40Nm), it can slowly vibrate and "wobble" inside the crank arm. Over time, this movement elongates the hole and flattens the threads until the pedal eventually falls out or strips entirely.
Once this happens, the hole is no longer a perfect circle and a standard pedal will no longer stay in place.
The Stainless Steel Advantage
A original crank arm is made of aluminium, which is soft. A Helicoil insert is made of high-quality stainless steel wire. When we install a Helicoil, we are essentially giving your crank arm a steel core.
