Headset Repair & Replacement in London

Smooth, Safe Steering

The headset is the bearing assembly that lets your handlebars and fork turn smoothly. When headset bearings wear out or come loose, you'll notice play when you rock the bike forward with the front brake applied, a clunking sensation over bumps, or stiff, notchy steering. These symptoms affect handling safety and get worse over time.

Headset Adjustment

Loose headsets are often fixed with a simple adjustment. This involves tightening the top cap bolt and stem bolts in the correct sequence and to the correct torque. We check bearing preload carefully because over-tightening damages bearings just as quickly as riding with them loose.

Headset Bearing Replacement

If the bearings are pitted, rough, or notchy when turned by hand, replacement is the right call. We fit sealed cartridge bearings matched to your frame's headset standard, whether integrated, semi-integrated, zero-stack, or external cup, and set the preload so steering feels smooth from the first ride.

When Does a Headset Need Replacing?

Headsets typically last several thousand miles, but London riding conditions including rain, road spray, and vibration from poor surfaces will shorten bearing life. Once bearings feel rough or indexing develops (the bars want to centre in one position), replacement is the most effective fix.
